Just keep the StartupQuote application and the Quotes file into the same folder, then launch the application and click on the Install button. A new quote will be displayed and rebuilt at each startup.
What is it ?
StartupQuote builds a new StartupScreen at each startup, displaying each time a new quote from an installed set.
Important points:
• The quote is REALLY displayed at startup. Remember, it's a startup screen builder.
• No INIT or control panel, it's only an application. It installs a document in your 'Startup Items' folder, which builds a StartupScreen file in your System folder, that's all! StartupQuote won't crash your Mac due to INIT incompatibility issues.
This software is distributed as shareware ($10 for a single user license). By registering at Kagi, you'll get an unlock code that will allow you to add new quotes, remove or edit existing quotes, import/export quotes text files.
Requirements: System 7 or higher, ColorQuickDraw, 12" screen min.
How do I register ?
Use the Register application - simply follow the instructions, the unlock code will be sent to you within the payment confirmation email from Kagi. Email payments usually take about 3-4 days to process, fax or postal mail take about 10 days.

What is a Site or World-Wide license ?
Here is the default definition suggested by Kagi (and just fine for me):
A Site License allows anyone in the organization making the purchase, within a 160 km (100 mile) radius of the purchasing location, to use the software. This includes people from that organization location who are travelling but it does not include people with locations outside of the 160 km radius.
A World-Wide License allows anyone in the organization making the purchase, who is on the planet Earth, to use the software. An additional World-Wide License would be required for other planets. :-)
Import/export text files format
The import/export format is very simple, just the text lines, each quote separated from the other by a single line containing one single '#' character, like here:

If you want to be sure, just try to export the current quotes, then open the resulting text file with any text editor.
Troubleshooting
First of all, are you sure that you have the latest version ? Your problem may have been solved in a recent release. Anyway have a look to the StartupQuote web page for the latest info (see the URL at the top of this help).
